Chapter 2: Curtains

Hugh:

If I’m not coming up

Then surely I’m going down

I can’t think of the last time

I saw a sold out crowd

I get up early to water these plants

I’ve got a peace lily

It’s the only peace that I’ve found

I hit the gym

Why the fuck did I do that?

When that curtain comes down

It’s a dirge and a shroud

And all I know for certain

                             is curtains

Guy:

I tend to lean towards the old school

But the only thing that rocks is the rule of cool

And I’ve only wanted to get things right

This music hall ain’t looking for a fight

Why don’t you practice like you play?

Why don’t you act like you pray?

Why don’t you love like you hate?

Why don’t you move like you wait?

And all I know for certain

                             is curtains

Hugh:

I wrote a text but did not send

Last night I was at it again

Being over sober loud and mean

Not allowed in this proscenium scene

Guy:

Guy:

Guy:

Who knows when this all goes up

I’ll think I’ll just throw up

What is left of my self worth

Until I’m found deep in pay dirt

Hugh:

Whose name did I leave at will call?

Will she ever call at all?

I tried to show off my name

For once it would be nice to be recognized

Guy:

But I turned into another other Guy

Another friend that I could buy

Some company at asking price

At least for one night

Together:

One more night, one more night

Look at the bandstand and tighten the snare drum

A little dress rehearsal for things to come

And I’ve only wanted to get things right

Find the true things to say and write

Why don’t you practice like you play?

Why don’t you fuck like you’ll stay?

Why don’t you kill like you hate?

Why don’t you act while you faint?

Just sit still and behave

I think you missed the new wave!

Why don’t you tempt a new fate?

Why don’t you master what you…er…wait!

All I know for certain

                     is curtains
